7 high school track team members in California injured by driver crashing on sidewalk
Seven students from a high school track team in California were injured in an accident Wednesday when a driver suspected of drunk driving went off the road, according to authorities. The incident took place around 3 p.m. near Harbor Boulevard and North Street in Anaheim. The students, aged 16 and 17, were on a training run, waiting at a traffic light when the collision occurred. They were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver, Anthony Alva-Palafox, 27, veered off the road and struck the students while traveling southbound on a green light. Police are investigating the crash as a potential DUI case as Alva-Palafox showed signs of intoxication. Both he and the students are receiving medical attention for their injuries. The local community and school district are sending thoughts and prayers to the students and their families. Authorities have impounded Alva-Palafox's car, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
