65-year-old man killed in Huntington Beach crash
An investigation is underway after a 65-year-old man was killed in a crash in Huntington Beach. On May 20, Huntington Beach police were called to the intersection of Gothard Street and Lorge Circle around 5:20 p.m. The collision involved two vehicles — a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck and a Toyota Sienna minivan. Officers found a male driver who was unconscious inside the pickup truck. Paramedics transported the man to the hospital where he died from his injuries. He was only identified as a 65-year-old Huntington Beach resident. A preliminary investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling southbound on Gothard Street when, for reasons under investigation, the truck crashed into the minivan, police said. The truck continued traveling down the street, eventually crossing into oncoming lanes before colliding with a tree on the side of the road. The minivan driver, a 60-year-old man from Westminster, was uninjured. He remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said impairment did not appear to be a factor for the minivan driver, however, it’s unknown whether impairment was a factor for the truck driver. “The collision investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT),” authorities said. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information on the case is asked to call HBPD Investigator Cameron Houlston at 714-536-5670.
