6-car crash with injuries closes Wake Forest Road near I-440 in Raleigh
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- A major crash involving several cars closed Wake Forest Road near Interstate 440 in Raleigh on Thursday afternoon. The wreck was reported around 1:50 p.m. on Wake Forest Road near St. Albans Drive, a few blocks north of I-440, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Both directions of Wake Forest Road were closed between Navaho Drive and St. Albans Drive, police said. Injuries were reported after six cars were involved in the crash near Duke Raleigh Hospital. There's no word on the severity of injuries in the wreck. Traffic was backed up onto I-440 from the ramp for Wake Forest Road, but police later blocked the ramp near the highway. Around 4:20 p.m., traffic was slow along I-440 near Wake Forest Road. Extra traffic was reported along Six Forks Road and Atlantic Avenue as drivers sought routes around the crash. Police said drivers will need to access the hospital by another route. Officers said they did not know when Wake Forest Road would reopen.
