A multi-vehicle crash shut down Route 879 in Clearfield County on Thursday night, prompting an extended closure and a response that included medical helicopters. According to 511PA, the crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on Route 879 between Clearfield and Curwensville near its intersection with Carbon Mine Road. Clearfield County dispatchers could not provide any information on the crash at the time. 511PA and the Rescue Hose & Ladder Company said all lanes of traffic in the westbound lane of the highway will be closed for an extended period, with 511PA estimating the road will reopen around 2 a.m. The Rescue Hose & Ladder Fire Company confirmed medical helicopters were called to the scene and asked the public to avoid the area and keep those impacted in the public’s thoughts and prayers.
