49ers head coach hurt in car accident

(KRON) -- San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week and is recovering, 49ers officials confirmed. “Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers,” team officials said in a statement. ESPN reported that Shanahan “broke his nose, three ribs, his hand, needed more than 40 stiches in his face and suffered a severe concussion,” from the accident. KRON4 has not independently confirmed the extent of his injuries, only that Shanahan’s injuries were "non-life threatening". "Kyle is basically going to be in the protocol," said the team's general manager John Lynch. "We're going to let the condition the doctors dictate how he comes back, when he comes back." Palo Alto Police and Fire responded to the accident. Police officials confirmed to KRON4 that the accident took place on July 14 near the intersection of Alma Street and Hamilton Avenue just before 6:15 p.m. Two vehicles were involved with one other driver. Both parties stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol or drug use is not suspected, police said. No citations were issued. Team officials said Assistant Head Coach Chris Foerster and other team coordinators will handle head coach responsibilities while Shanahan recovers.
