3 hospitalized in crash outside Boyle Heights grocery store

Three people sitting at a table outside a Boyle Heights grocery store were hospitalized after a motorist crashed into their table on the sidewalk, video shows. Details remain limited, and it’s unclear how the crash occurred. Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to calls about the incident at Cesar Chavez Avenue and Lorena Street around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. Arriving officers found three injured people, including an approximately 50-year-old woman who was conscious and breathing but suffering from a broken leg. A second person, an approximately 50-year-old man, was also conscious and breathing and complained of head pain, LAPD confirmed to KTLA. Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigators said a third person was also rushed to the hospital, though no information was provided on their condition. Sky5 footage from the scene showed an older-model white SUV on the sidewalk outside Los 5 Puntos grocery store at the intersection. The vehicle had a shattered rear window and visible front-end damage. It is unclear whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, and authorities have not said if the driver of the SUV was taken into custody.
