3 arrested, 2 missing after Skokie police squad car crash leads to foot pursuit

SKOKIE, Ill. (WGN) — Two people remain at large after police in Skokie responded to a burglary-in-progress early Thursday morning. According to police, at around 3:30 a.m., May 7, Skokie officers responded to a glass-break burglar alarm at a business located in the 3500 block of Dempster St. Arriving officers witnessed several people at the scene, placing stolen items into a vehicle. The vehicle then fled westbound, striking a Skokie police squad car, authorities said. The group then exited the vehicle and attempted their escape. Officers captured three of the five suspects, while two successfully fled, police said. The three people in custody, who police say are two juveniles and one adult, reside in Chicago. Officers also recovered a gun from the fleeing vehicle, which investigators later found was both stolen from Chicago, police added. Two responding Skokie police sergeants suffered injuries. One sergeant hurt in the squad car crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The second suffered non-life-threatening injuries after attempting to arrest one of the fleeing suspects.
