2 killed in rollover crash on 405 Freeway in Westchester
Two people were killed early Wednesday in a rollover crash on the southbound 405 Freeway in Westchester, prompting hours-long lane closures and a SigAlert, authorities said. The crash was reported just after 2 a.m. north of La Tijera Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Fire officials said a white sedan was involved in a single-vehicle rollover on the freeway, leaving two patients dead at the scene. Their ages and genders were not immediately released. Because of the investigation and cleanup, CHP issued a SigAlert for the area, closing all southbound lanes for several hours before gradually reopening traffic. By around 6:43 a.m., CHP traffic officers said the No. 3 and No. 4 lanes remained closed southbound north of La Tijera Boulevard, with delays expected to last up to two hours. A later update around 8:54 a.m. said the same lanes would stay shut for at least another 30 minutes as crews continued working the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the area if possible and to use alternate routes while the investigation continued. The lanes reopened at 9:23 a.m. No additional details about what caused the crash were immediately available. Vanessa Garcia contributed to this report.
