2 killed in Martin County's fifth fatal traffic crash in 4 days
A deadly crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Palm City shut down all northbound lanes Monday afternoon, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office. The crash happened just after 3 p.m. near the 132-mile marker, just before Exit 133 for Martin Downs Boulevard, according to Florida 511 . Two people were killed, and Martin County Fire Rescue said its firefighter-paramedics transported one person with traumatic injuries by ground to the hospital. Florida Highway Patrol is also on the scene. Officials have not yet released details about what led up to the crash or the identities of those involved. The closure is causing major delays for drivers. Traffic is backed up to about mile marker 129 as investigators work the scene and crews clear the roadway. The crash is the latest in what has been an especially deadly stretch on Martin County roads. According to the sheriff's office, it marks the fifth fatal traffic crash investigated in the county over the last four days. One of those crashes happened Saturday morning on SW Allapattah Road, where a head-on collision killed a 31-year-old Stuart man and a 63-year-old Indiantown man. Florida Highway Patrol said the two vehicles collided head-on, killing both drivers. Neither vehicle had passengers.
