13-year-old skateboarder dies days after he was struck by vehicle in Canton

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) -- A 13-year-old Canton boy died days after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his skateboard. According to Canton police, it happened in the 3300 block of Market Avenue North around 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27. Police said the boy was on a skateboard going east on 33rd Street when he crossed Market Avenue and was hit by a Honda Civic going south. The boy was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries before being transported to Akron Children's Hospital for further evaluation, according to police. Sunday evening the Summit County Coroner's Office informed police that the boy died from his injuries. He has not been identified. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not injured and police said they are not suspected of impaired driving. The crash remains under investigation.
