1 injured in four-car collision on northbound I-57 in Coles County.
Shortly before a tragic multi-vehicle collision resulted in the closure of southbound I-57 in Coles County, the northbound lanes were already closed due to an earlier crash just a few miles south. The Illinois State Police reported that the initial incident occurred at Milepost 179 between Neoga and Mattoon around 11:37 p.m. It involved three semi-trucks and one passenger vehicle, leading to one individual being airlifted to a nearby hospital for injuries. The condition of the person airlifted remains unknown. The northbound lanes were blocked after the collision and remained inaccessible until 1:30 a.m.
