1 in life-threatening condition after crash in SW Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - One person is in life-threatening condition after a two-vehicle crash in southwest Fort Wayne. Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a crash at the intersection of Bluffton Rd. and Airport Expressway shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, according to a release from FWPD. Officers found an SUV on its side and a sedan partially off the roadway. A preliminary investigation indicated the SUV was traveling eastbound on Airport Expressway when the sedan attempted a left turn from the westbound lanes to head south on Bluffton Rd., causing the crash. According to a release from FWPD, the adult male driver of the SUV and an older female passenger in the sedan were transported to the hospital. The female passenger is in life-threatening condition and the driver of the SUV is in good condition, according to FWPD. The adult male driver of the sedan was not injured. Fort Wayne Fire Department personnel assisted on scene and extracted one of the drivers who had been trapped. The crash caused traffic to be backed up for some time. The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) and Air Support Unit (ASU) responded to conduct the investigation. Investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing involved parties andwitnesses. The incident remains under investigation as the FACT Team works to determine fault in the crash.
