1 dead following Monday vehicle accident on I-79: WVSP
UPDATE: 2/17/2026 — The West Virginia State Police have released a statement on the I-79 accident in Marion County that took place on Monday, confirming one fatality. State police say that the accident took place at approximately 1:22 p.m. on Interstate 79, southbound at milemarker 139. "The victim, who was operating a 1995 Ford F-250 southbound, traveled over the left fog line and struck a safety barrier," the release said. "The vehicle then crossed the passing lane and entered the right-hand lane, where it collided with a tractor-trailer." The victim has been identified as 47-year-old David Pardue of Burnsville. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing. UPDATE: 5:16 p.m. — The Marion County 911 Center has confirmed to 12 News that all lanes of I-79 south have been reopened. No other information has been made avaliable at this time. ORIGINAL: FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — I-79 is shut down in Marion County due to a vehicle accident, and a medical examiner has been called to the scene. The southbound lanes on I-79 at mile marker 139, East Fairmont/Pricketts Creek exit, have been closed since 1:15 p.m. Details on how many vehicles were involved, what caused the accident and specifics on any injuries have not yet been released, however a medical examiner has been called to the scene, according to officials. Marion County Rescue Squad officials said on Facebook that the interstate is expected to be closed for an extended time and are asking drivers to avoid the area. "Significant delays" are expected, officials said. WV 511 shows traffic backed up to the I-79 and I-68 split in Monongalia County. In addition to the rescue squad, the Winfield and Clinton District volunteer fire departments responded to the wreck and the West Virginia State Police are investigating.
