1 dead following crash in Rolling Meadows
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (WGN) - One person died in a crash Wednesday night in Rolling Meadows. The Rolling Meadows Police Department said just after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, a police officer in a fully marked police vehicle stopped at a red light facing south on Rohlwing Road at Euclid Avenue. The officer then saw a vehicle traveling westbound on Euclid Avenue approaching Rohlwing Road with its headlights turned off, a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code. The officer made a U-turn and tried to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle as it traveled northbound on Rohlwing Road but was unable to get close, lost sight of the vehicle and ended the pursuit, according to investigators. Police said a few moments later, the officer heard a loud noise, searched the area and found the vehicle crashed and partially submerged in a stormwater detention area in the 3600 block of Industrial Avenue. Emergency rescue crews arrived and removed the driver from the vehicle, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. The driver's identity has not been released at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
