1 dead, 3 injured following ATV crash in Bennington County
RUPERT, Vt. (NEWS10) -- One person has died, and several others left seriously injured, following an ATV crash in the town of Rupert on Saturday, according to Vermont State Police. A West Pawlet man is facing a DUI charge as a result of the incident. Vermont State Police were dispatched to the scene, located on Suncrest Road, at about 8:25 p.m. following a report of a crash involving serious injuries. Upon arrival, troopers said rescue and fire personnel were already working to extricate one of the occupants of the vehicle. According to police, the ATV had rolled over an embankment after leaving the roadway and hitting several trees. An investigation reportedly found that there had been five people in the vehicle. Two of the occupants were airlifted to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries, while a third was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center, police said. A fourth passenger died as a result of his injuries during extrication -- his identity is reportedly being withheld pending notification to next of kin. The driver of the ATV was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. He was reportedly charged with DUI with death resulting and taken to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
