OSP: Woman, two children killed in crash in Pike County; third child hospitalized

A woman and two children have died and another was hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash in Pike County on Monday.It happened around 1:56 p.m. when troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a crash at the intersection of state Route 32 and Coal Dock Road in Union Township.According to OSP, a preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling north when it failed to yield to continue north on Coal Dock Road across state Route 32 and was struck by a semi hauling an empty logging trailer that was traveling west. The driver of the Traverse and two of her three passengers died from their injuries at the scene.The victims have been identified as Hannah N. Howard, 30, Gunner Howard, 9 and Peyton Howard, all from Beaver, Ohio. Howard’s third passenger, a four-year-old child, was taken by air ambulance to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with serious life -threatening injuries.The driver of the semi trailer was not injured from the crash.OSP was assisted at the scene by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, MedFlight, Stockdale Fire Department, Beaver Fire Department, Ports Atomic Plant Emergency Services, Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service, Pike County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Gahm’s Wrecker & Crane Service.The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
