Hazard man sentenced for fatal crash that killed two
A Hazard man has been sentenced in connection to a 2023 crash in Clay County that left a woman and 8-year-old dead. Justin Zoerb was sentenced Tuesday to a total of six months and three months in prison on two counts of motor vehicle homicide and one count of reckless driving. The Nebraska State Patrol says it happened on Highway 6 near the Adams and Clay County line. They say a semi headed west failed to slow down for traffic that was waiting for a vehicle to turn at Road A. The patrol says that semi entered the eastbound lanes and hit a Buick Enclave—a family from Davenport inside. Authorities say Nicole Pavelka and 8-year-old Ryker Schlichtman were pronounced dead at the scene. Three small children were all hospitalized with serious injuries.
