Worker dies after ‘industrial accident’ at North Charleston steel facility

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A worker died Wednesday morning after a bundle of steel fell on the worker during what police called an industrial accident. Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to Allied Crawford Steel just before 10 a.m. because of an accident that had just happened. According to an incident report, responding officers saw a bundle of steel beams that were on the victim. First responders attempted recovery efforts; however, the 44-year-old victim did not survive. Their identity has not yet been released. In the report, a witness told officers that he and the victim were offloading a truck when the victim “went on the hoist closet to the cab of the truck” to wrap the bundle of steel beams with a chain. The witness stated that he was reaching for the chain from the victim when the back half of the bundle near the back of the truck fell onto the victim, according to the report.
