Woman wanted for reckless driving in fatal Grant County crash arrested in Florida

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. -- A woman is awaiting extradition from Florida to Indiana after being arrested for her alleged role in a crash that left one person dead in Grant County last year. Authorities confirmed that 31-year-old Adria Wilkerson was placed under arrest by deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office after she was located in Venice, Florida. She was detained on an active warrant issued out of Indiana for reckless homicide. According to previous reports, deputies with the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded on Oct. 1, 2025, to the area of State Road 18 and State Road 13 near Oak Hill High School after receiving reports that a black BMW was "driving recklessly." Court documents revealed that just 18 minutes before the fatal crash was originally reported, the Grant County Central 911 Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple calls reporting that the BMW allegedly failed to observe a stop sign at 500 West and reportedly passed a vehicle and a school bus. The initial calls also indicated that Wilkerson reportedly crashed her BMW through a local farmer's fence, ending up in a cow pasture before she returned to the roadway. The crash reportedly left the farmer's fenceline damaged and left vehicle debris that appeared to confirm the involved vehicle was a BMW, court documents said. When deputies arrived on the scene, they reported observing Wilkerson's BMW and a 2023 Chevrolet that had been involved in a head-on collision. The BMW was reported to be on fire in a grassy area near Oak Hill High School. Authorities quickly jumped into action after determining that the driver of the Chevrolet was entrapped. The Chevrolet was spotted on the south side of State Road 18 near the edge of a cornfield. Wilkerson managed to exit her vehicle, which was said to be on fire, with assistance from bystanders on the scene. Wilkerson was then airlifted to Lutheran Hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as "serious" at the time. Meanwhile, deputies managed to remove the entrapped driver and transported her to an area hospital, where she later succumbed to her wounds and died. She was identified as 45-year-old Vickie Colley of Marion. An autopsy was performed the following day, where Colley's cause of death was blunt force injuries of the torso and left side extremities. The manner of death was ruled an accident at the time. GCSO said preliminary information indicated that at the time, Wilkerson was operating her BMW and heading west on State Road 18 when she crossed the center line and collided with the Chevrolet. The Grant County Crash Reconstruction Team later found evidence that Wilkerson had reportedly crossed the double yellow center line in a no-passing zone and struck Colley's Chevrolet in a direct collision. Witnesses also reportedly told law enforcement that they observed the BMW driving in a reckless and erratic manner before the crash occurred. This included passing vehicles in no passing zones and forcing vehicles off the road in the surrounding area. As part of their investigation, deputies spoke with members of Wilkerson's family. During their conversation, they reportedly told law enforcement that she had a history of "suicidal ideology," according to court documents. Family also claimed that Wilkerson allegedly abandoned her child at their home in New York, where she is originally from. Court documents show that officers corroborated this account by confirming an abandonment of a child report filed by Saratoga County law enforcement and a welfare check. Court documents revealed that Wilkerson was stopped while passing through Ohio. However, she was released when she was deemed not to be a threat to herself or others. Online court records show that an arrest warrant was issued for Wilkerson out of Grant Superior Court 3 on Feb. 13 before she was arrested Tuesday evening. As of this article's publication, Wilkerson is being held in Florida until she is extradited to Indiana, where she faces charges of reckless homicide (Level 5 Felony) and Reckless Driving (Class C Misdemeanor).
