Woman killed in Riverside County crash; man and 11-year-old airlifted

A 27-year-old woman was killed, and a man and an 11-year-old boy were airlifted to a hospital following a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Riverside County, authorities said. The collision happened around 7:05 a.m. on State Route 371 south of Homestead Road near Anza, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators said the woman, a Palm Desert resident, was driving a 2006 Honda Insight southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, she crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The Honda collided with a 2016 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 56-year-old man from Aguanga, CHP said. Following the impact, both vehicles traveled onto the east dirt shoulder, where the Toyota overturned onto its left side. Responding crews from CHP and Cal Fire arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. The 27-year-old Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The Toyota driver and his 11-year-old male passenger were airlifted to a local hospital with injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available. Authorities said alcohol is not currently believed to be a factor in the crash.
