Detective testifies both drivers were 'passing illegally' in crash near Louisville airport

A detective testified in court that both drivers involved in the deadly rollover crash near the Louisville Airport were passing illegally. Michael Joseph, 39, appeared in court Wednesday facing charges for the rollover crash that left another man dead. John "Chris" Goodaker, 54, died in the crash. Joseph is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid with death, reckless driving, no operators/moped license, improper passing, and failure of owner to maintain required insurance. In court Wednesday, a detective said that Joseph and Goodaker both illegally passed another car on the shoulder of Crittenden Drive. The detective then said that Goodaker hit Joseph's car, causing his vehicle to hit a pole and roll over. Joseph's arrest citation states that he was improperly passing at a high speed during the crash and he had no valid driver's license or proof of insurance. His attorney argued in court that he is not criminally responsible for the crash, even though he did not stop after the crash. Joseph's case will be presented to a grand jury in July.
