Woman killed after attempting to cross tracks on LA 1, troopers say
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Deputies with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash involving a train and a vehicle along LA 1 near the Dow tracks, close to the Iberville Parish line. WBRSO said the crash is being investigated as a fatal incident. According to the Louisiana State Police, the crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on April 8 on LA 1 south of Sid Richardson Road. LSP said a 2017 Toyota Camry attempted to cross the railroad tracks as a Union Pacific train was approaching with all warning devices activated. The train struck the vehicle. LSP said the driver, identified as Ianthia Washington, 72, of White Castle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The train operator was not injured. Officials said impairment is not suspected at this time. This is a developing story.
