UISD relocates Wednesday board meeting after fatal Loop 20 plane crash

The United Independent School District has relocated Wednesday evening’s board meeting because of access issues caused by Tuesday night’s fatal plane crash on Loop 20. The regular meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m., will now be held at the Alexander High School Ninth Grade Campus cafeteria, 4601 Victory Drive, according to a revised meeting agenda issued by the district. In the revised agenda, the district cited an emergency resulting from “an unforeseen catastrophe” that physically interfered with its ability to hold the meeting at its original location. The notice states that the plane crash caused the closure of portions of the northbound and southbound lanes of Loop 20, creating an emergency and transportation failure under state law. The relocation comes as authorities continue investigating Tuesday night’s crash near the Clark Boulevard exit on Loop 20 that killed Capital Factory CEO Joshua Baer. Large portions of Loop 20 remained closed Wednesday, causing traffic disruptions across the city. Laredo Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez said the department could not guarantee the roadway would be open before the evening commute. The privately owned aircraft was carrying six people when it crashed shortly before 10 p.m. June 16. Baer died and five others survived. The aircraft was traveling from Mexico to Central Texas when the crew reported mechanical failure shortly before the crash, according to police.
