Woman injured after crashing car on Martha's Vineyard ferry; Delays expected
An older woman was flown to the hospital after crashing her minivan on the Martha's Vineyard Ferry on Wednesday morning.According to a Massachusetts State Police spokesperson, a 91-year-old woman drove her minivan onto the M/V Island Home ferry at a high rate of speed before crashing.Her vehicle drove the whole length of the deck before hitting the loading doors.She was transported to a Boston hospital via medical helicopter. Her condition is unknown at this time.There were no reports of any additional injuries.The crash delayed ferry services for about two hours.The Steamship Authority said the M/V Island Home has been cleared by the U.S. Coast Guard to return to Woods Hole, where maintenance personnel will assess the damage to the vessel.The M/V Sankaty will run in place of the M/V Island Home starting with the 1:15 p.m. departure from Woods Hole. The Steamship Authority said to expect delays throughout the day.The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no further information was immediately available.
