Woman in critical condition after two-vehicle crash in Las Cruces
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- A 67-year-old woman is in critical condition after being involved in a two-vehicle crash earlier Tuesday morning, July 14 in Las Cruces, according to the Las Cruces Police Department. Shortly before 9 a.m. on July 14, Las Cruces police and fire personnel were dispatched to the intersection of El Paseo Road and Farney Lane to a report of a two-vehicle crash. A 67-year-old woman, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash, was initially trapped inside and had to be extracted by firefighters, according to LCPD. She was taken to a Las Cruces hospital before being airlifted in critical condition to University Medical Center in El Paso. "She remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition," according to LCPD. Traffic investigators learned that the woman was traveling west on Farney, crossing El Paseo, when it struck broadside by a sedan, driven by a 20-year-old woman. The driver of the sedan was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Preliminary information indicates that "one of the vehicles may have entered the intersection on a red light," LCPD said. The police department also noted that the 67-year-old driver was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have contributed to her injuries.
