Woman dies in crash on US Highway 85 in Brighton
DENVER (KDVR) -- A woman died in a multi-vehicle crash on US Highway 85 in Brighton at approximately 6:15 a.m. Friday. All southbound lanes and the left northbound lane are closed between E-470 and CO 22 and East 24th Avenue at Mile Point 231 as a result of the crash, as of 10:52 a.m. The Brighton Police Department said the deadly crash occurred just south of East 136th Avenue after a Chevrolet Truck traveling northbound on Highway 85 rear-ended a Toyota SUV that was also traveling northbound. The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to roll over off the highway, eventually coming to rest on the east side of the roadway. The Chevrolet Truck, meanwhile, traveled along with debris into the southbound lanes of traffic, ultimately colliding with several other vehicle, according to BPD. BPD said the driver of the Chevrolet Truck died at the scene, while a driver in one of the cars hit in the southbound lanes was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, according to BPD, which said traffic crash investigators remain at the scene, as of 9:45 a.m. The identity of the woman who died is being withheld pending positive identification by the coroner's office and notification of next of kin.
