A woman from Seaside was taken into custody for driving under the influence after a fatal accident in South Monterey County on Monday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident took place around 5:32 p.m. on northbound River Road, north of Gonzales River Road. The preliminary investigation suggested that a white Nissan SUV, driven by 23-year-old Aja Hill, was traveling with a 23-year-old female passenger and a 2-year-old boy onboard. Due to Hill's intoxicated state, the vehicle veered off the road, hit a power pole, and overturned. Hill sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, while the unrestrained passenger was ejected, resulting in her death after being taken to Natividad Medical Center. The child's injuries were unspecified. The deceased passenger was identified as Nicole Biihler by the Monterey County Coroner's Office. Hill faces multiple charges related to the incident and is currently held at Monterey County Jail with bail set at $50,000. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Monterey Area CHP office.
