Former pro-football player injured in Highlands Ranch hit-and-run crash that killed his fiancée

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (KDVR) — A former Penn State football player remains hospitalized after undergoing six surgeries following a hit-and-run crash in Highlands Ranch that killed his fiancée and seriously injured two other pedestrians. Kyle Vasey, 30, suffered extensive injuries when a pickup truck allegedly veered onto a sidewalk and struck him, his fiancée Corrine More, and a 73-year-old woman on June 1, according to an arrest affidavit. More was killed in the crash. Vasey and the other victim suffered serious injuries. Vasey's family said he sustained fractures throughout his body, including injuries to his spine and four broken ribs. They said his left arm was the only limb not injured in the collision. “This is a challenging reality to have to wake up to,” said Heather Bustos, a colleague of Vasey's at Compass Real Estate in Denver. “Not only his physical recovery and what needs to happen, but the very, very tragic loss of someone that he was deeply in love with and planning to spend the rest of his life with.” The crash occurred near the intersection of East Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Willowbridge Way in Highlands Ranch. Investigators say the driver left the roadway and struck the three pedestrians walking on the sidewalk. Authorities arrested 47-year-old Adam Bauserman in connection with the crash. He faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and driving with a suspended license. “I would certainly hope that the justice system will do what's right in this case,” Bustos said. “But it will not change the fact that it has completely altered three lives.” Before entering Denver’s real estate industry, Vasey played football at Penn State and later signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a long snapper as an offseason roster member in 2019. Bustos hopes Vasey's athletic background and positive attitude will help him navigate his lengthy recovery. “All things considered, his positive attitude and his focus are in the right place right now,” she said. Family members have traveled from Pennsylvania to Colorado to support Vasey during his recovery. Relatives and coworkers have launched two online fundraisers to help cover mounting medical expenses and costs associated with caring for him during his rehabilitation. Bustos said the family is relying on community support as Vasey begins the next phase of his recovery. “They need a lot of positive thoughts, prayers, condolences, and they need all the support they can get right now, too,” she said. Vasey's family also warned that fraudulent fundraising pages have appeared online following the crash. They said there are only two verified GoFundMe campaigns benefiting Vasey and his family.
