Woman arrested at Salt Lake City convenience store suspected of triple-fatal crash in Arizona
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A woman was arrested outside of a convenience store in Salt Lake City, suspected of being the driver in a fatal crash that killed three people and injured four others in Arizona in December 2024. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, detectives with their Vehicular Crimes Unit made the arrest on Tuesday, March 19 with assistance from the United States Marshals Service. Amy Lynn Mickelson, 48, was arrested and booked into Weber County Jail, where she is being held without bond while waiting for extradition to Yavapai County. She is facing three counts of second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, three counts of felony endangerment, one count of criminal damage, and one count of aggravated DUI. The crash happened on Dec. 7, 2024 at approximately 2:15 p.m. on southbound U.S. 93 near milepost 175 in Congress, Arizona. Allegedly, Mickelson was impaired when she drove her BMW sedan across the center line and collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna minivan. Three people inside the Sienna were pronounced dead at the scene, but there were four other occupants inside the vehicle as well, all minor children between the ages of 5 and 16 who were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Allegedly, Mickelson fled Arizona after the crash and moved to Utah, though police did not disclose where in Utah she established residence. She was located in Utah with the help of the U.S. Marshals. "This arrest demonstrates the determination of [Vehicular Crimes Unit] detectives and their commitment to pursuing justice for the victims and families," Arizona Department of Public Safety said in a press release. They also thanked the Marshals for their support in the investigation.
