Woman, 61, killed in 3-car crash in Canaan Township: OSHP

CANAAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) -- Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said a 61-year-old woman was killed in a Monday morning, June 1, crash involving three vehicles. Troopers responded just before 9 a.m. to the scene at the intersection of state routes 83 and 604, according to a news release. Investigators learned an SUV headed south on state Route 83 turned left onto state Route 604 and failed to yield to a minivan that was headed north on state Route 83 and had the right-of-way, according to the release. The SUV struck the minivan, causing it to go off the east side of the roadway into a field, where it stopped. The SUV then hit another SUV that was behind it, according to the release. Doris L. Mace, 61, of Rittman, who was a passenger in the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol. The minivan's driver, a 47-year-old Massillon woman, and its other passenger both suffered minor injuries, according to the release. All three were wearing seat belts, according to the release. The driver of the SUV that troopers said initiated the crash was a 35-year-old Akron woman who suffered serious injuries and was not wearing a seat belt. A 62-year-old Medina man who was driving the second SUV did not appear to be injured at all and was wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
