Woman, 3-year-old child dead in Fairfield County crash
A 25-year-old Lancaster woman and a 3-year-old child are dead after a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Berne Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Lancaster Post received a call about a crash on Bremen Road SE near Lake Road SE in Fairfield County. Investigators said a 2023 Kia Forte driven by Miranda M. Maughmer, 25, of Lancaster, was traveling east on Bremen Road. A 2015 GMC Acadia driven by Faith E. Irwin, 33, of Bremen, was traveling west when the Kia traveled left of center and struck the GMC. Maughmer was taken by Lancaster EMS to Fairfield Medical Center, where she died. Troopers said she was not wearing a seatbelt. Two young passengers were in the back seat of the Kia: a 3-year-old and an 8-month-old. Both were transported by Lancaster EMS to Fairfield Medical Center. The 3-year-old died at the hospital. The 8-month-old sustained minor injuries. Troopers said both children were secured in child car seats at the time of the crash. Irwin was taken by Berne Township EMS to Fairfield Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers said she was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
