Wink-Loving ISD: Counselors available after fatal crash involving students

WINKLER COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - Wink-Loving Independent School District is mourning the death of one of its students following a rollover crash in Winkler County that also left several other students injured, according to a statement posted by the district early Monday morning. “Our hearts are heavy. We are grieving the loss of one of our students following a tragic car accident, and several other students are being evaluated for various injuries,” the district wrote. Wink-Loving ISD said counselors will be available on-site for students and staff, and asked for privacy for those impacted. “We ask for privacy and peace for those families as they navigate the days ahead,” the district said. “Please keep the families, friends, classmates, our staff, and entire community in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.” The statement comes after the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office reported a fatal rollover crash late Sunday night on County Road 201 involving five children under the age of 16. Authorities said four of the children were ejected from the vehicle and one was pronounced dead at the scene. Serious injuries were also reported. The sheriff’s office said Texas Department of Public Safety troopers will be conducting the investigation and that no images or further details will be released. The scene was cleared around 3:50 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office. No names have been released.
