VSP: Motorcyclist clocked at 127mph crashes in Downtown Tunnel

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- A motorcyclist was injured after a police pursuit resulted in a crash Thursday night in the Downtown Tunnel, according to Virginia State Police. A Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a motorcycle that was traveling westbound on I-264 near Ballentine Boulevard in Norfolk at approximately 11:35 p.m. State police said the motorcyclist was speeding, driving 127 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. The motorcyclist refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. State police said the motorcycle subsequently entered the Downtown Tunnel and rear-ended a Kia Soul. The motorcyclist, identified as 30-year-old Desirae L. Sears, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Charges are pending. The crash is under investigation.
