VSP investigating double fatal crash in Smyth County
SMYTH COUNTY, Virginia (WJHL) - Virginia State Police (VSP) announced on Monday that it was investigating a crash that killed two people on July 3 on Sugar Grove Highway. According to VSP, the crash occurred at 12:10 p.m. when a Nissan Pathfinder was heading northbound on Sugar Grove Highway near the Racoon Branch Campground. The Nissan reportedly crossed the centerline and struck a Dodge Ram head-on. Both the driver of the Nissan, Sonya E. Baker, 50, of Troutdale, Va., and the driver of the Dodge, David S. Shore, 64, of Troutdale, Va., died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
