Violent wrong-way bridge crash leaves 2 hospitalized

A violent crash involving a wrong-way driver on a bridge sent two people to the hospital overnight, authorities say.   The incident was reported just after 12:30 a.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of the 710 Freeway along the Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Garcia.   “Two people were transported,” Officer Garcia said, unable to confirm their conditions or whether they were in the same vehicle. It was not immediately clear whether impairment or speed were factors.   A SigAlert was issued so that road crews could clear the scene. Lanes were eventually opened around 2:10 a.m.  Further details on the crash were not available right away.  Alberto Mendez contributed to this report.
