Video: Trooper narrowly escapes near-fatal crash

DUANE, N.Y. (NewsNation) — Harrowing video shows a New York state trooper surviving a near-fatal crash when she was struck by a vehicle while standing on the side of the road. Authorities said two police vehicles were parked at an intersection as trooper Bailey Martin stood outside her marked patrol vehicle speaking with another on Feb. 13. Troopers said the 21-year-old driver of the gray 2016 Dodge Durango had sunlight impairing his vision and failed to “observe the posted stop sign.” Officers said the driver also collided with Martin’s unoccupied patrol vehicle. The driver, occupants and trooper were evaluated at the scene. The Dodge occupants reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries but declined further medical treatment. Martin was injured but has since returned to her duties. NewsNation local affiliate WWTI contributed to this report.
