Victim identified in fatal UTV crash in Bennington County
RUPERT, Vt. (NEWS10)-- Vermont State Police have identified the man who died during an UTV crash in Rupert on Saturday. 39-year-old David McGuire, of Maine, was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were injured. Troopers were dispatched to Suncrest Road just before 8:30 p.m. for reports of a crash with serious injuries. Upon arrival, rescue and fire crews were working to extricate McGuire from the vehicle. Authorities said three additional passengers were seriously injured and were hospitalized. According to troopers, a 13-year-old and a 43-year-old were airlifted to Albany Medical Center for severe injuries and remain hospitalized and a 15-year-old was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center and has since been released. An inital investigation into the crash determined the UTV left the roadway, hit several trees and rolled over an embankment. Seatbelts were believed to be used, troopers added. A fifth occupant and the driver, 33-year-old Ellsworth Reed, of West Pawlet, was arrested for driving under the influence. Reed was later arraigned on DUI with death resulting Monday afternoon and remanded to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility. According to state police, the investigation, however, remains active and ongoing.
