UPDATE: Nine people transported after crash on Causeway
UPDATE (8:45 p.m.) — We are learning more about a major wreck on the Causeway. According to Spanish Fort Police Chief John Barber, a vehicle traveling westbound Saturday afternoon crossed into the eastbound lanes, causing the crash. Nine people were transported for medical care, four by helicopter and five by ground. ORIGINAL REPORTING: BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A major crash shut down the eastbound lanes of the Causeway for several hours on Saturday. According to Spanish Fort Police, the four vehicle crash happened around 3:15 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 42. The wreck resulted in two of the drivers being trapped in their vehicles. All four drivers were transported for treatment, and three out of the four were airlifted from the scene, according to police. Police believe all of the injuries sustained are non-life-threatening. All eastbound lanes of the Causeway reopened just before 7 p.m. Saturday.
