Two ejected from vehicle in Alamo hit-and-run: Police

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) -- The Alamo Police Department has located and arrested the driver accused of leaving the scene of a crash that left two adults and four children with injuries. Jose Fidencio Luna Ramirez, 40, was taken into custody Friday night. Ramirez is scheduled to appear in court at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The crash occurred at approximately 6:16 p.m. on the westbound lanes Expressway 83, involving a silver Dodge Durango. At the scene, first responders found that a five-year-old child had been ejected from the Dodge vehicle. Police say that a passing nurse provided critical first aid to the five-year-old, who sustained severe head trauma and is currently in critical condition. Five other people in the Durango -- the driver, an adult passenger and three other children were also transported to the hospital with major injuries, including head and leg trauma. The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting the Alamo Police Department with the crash investigation.
