Two dead in fiery crash at Travis Air Force Base after vehicle pursuit

(FOX40.COM) — Two people died on Tuesday after a car crash at the entrance of Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield following a vehicle pursuit from Napa County, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office. NCSO said patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop around 12:04 a.m. on Highway 12 in Napa, just east of State Route 29. Deputies identified a driver and a passenger, who fled the traffic stop, resulting in a pursuit. Around 12:17 a.m., the suspect vehicle crashed at the Travis Air Force Base visitor parking lot and caught on fire, NCSO said. Deputies attempted to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers from their patrol cars, but were unsuccessful. Travis Air Force Base Fire arrived at the scene around 12:25 a.m. The driver, identified as a man, and the passenger were pronounced dead. Officials with the Travis Air Force Base said they are working closely with the Napa Sheriff's Office and the Solano County District Attorney's Office following the crash. The visitor center is temporarily close. The crash is under investigation. FOX40 is working to gather more information.
