Truck driver critically injured, airlifted to HCA Trident Trauma Center after wet-road wre
A car accident on Green Pond Highway on Tuesday morning left a truck driver trapped inside his vehicle in critical condition. Witnesses say the driver was attempting to avoid a collision with a White SUV merging onto the highway from Rivers Street. The pickup truck then slid on the wet pavement of the highway, over a grass median, and hit a pine tree on the driver's side, at which point the driver sustained a head injury and was rendered unconscious and entrapped inside the vehicle. A Fire-Rescue unit arrived at the scene of the accident within minutes, and paramedics used a saw to cut through a grove of trees and free the patient. The patient was flown safely and is being treated at the HCA Trident Hospital Trauma Center, paramedics say. Police and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the accident on-scene.
