Trooper taken to hospital after fiery crash involving wrong-way driver: Deputies
PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) - A state trooper was taken to the hospital after being involved in a serious crash on state Route 2 Friday evening. The fiery crash happened just before 9 p.m. near state Route 44 in Painesville Township. Authorities confirmed to FOX 8 News that the trooper was struck by a wrong-way driver. The trooper was taken to the hospital and is being treated for injuries. The coroner's office was on the scene Friday night. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed in a statement sent to the FOX 8 I-Team that it is investigating the "two-vehicle crash involving an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser in Lake County." The westbound lanes of state Route 2 are closed at state Route 44 because of the crash.
