Tragic accident claims life of 19-year-old Tusculum student on Old Tusculum Rd.
In a preliminary report, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) announced that a 19-year-old individual from Canada has passed away following a single-vehicle accident in Greene County. The incident occurred on Friday night when a 2018 Honda Pilot veered off the right side of the road on Old Tusculum Road, traveling 80 feet off the road before hitting a tree and coming to a stop. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Payton Cook, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Payton, a freshman majoring in business administration at Tusculum University and a member of the men's lacrosse team, was remembered by the university in a social media post. The driver, an 18-year-old, was also injured in the accident, along with four other students, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
