Two people hospitalized after wreck sends vehicle into 20-foot drainage area in NW OKC

Two people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a traffic collision sent the vehicle they were in down into a concrete drainage area near Northwest 35th Street and May Avenue. The call about the collision involving two vehicles came in just before 2:50 p.m. Saturday and Oklahoma City Fire Department Battalion Chief Derak Stewart said two people were still inside the vehicle in the drainage area as fire crews arrived.“Upon arrival, our fire crews did find two vehicles that were involved,” Stewart said. “One vehicle left the roadway and went into a concrete, a concrete drainage area about 20 to 25 feet below grade. We did make contact with the occupant, there was a driver and occupant, a passenger of the vehicle, we made contact from the roadway to try to make sure they were OK.”Stewart said firefighters deployed a ladder down to the vehicle and began rendering medical aid to the two people.He said both were taken to a local hospital to be further evaluated for any injuries sustained in the wreck.
