Traffic Alert: Eastbound I-80 is closed near Utah-Nevada border due to crash
TOOELE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A driver is in critical condition after reportedly crashing into a semi-truck on eastbound I-80 and then shooting themself. According to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), there is a crash on eastbound I-80 at milepost 4.5 in Tooele County, close to the Utah-Nevada border. UDOT says that EB I-80 is completely closed at this time. Initial UDOT estimates stated that the road should reopen around 4:40 p.m. but have since updated that there is an unknown time for clearance. Travelers should avoid this area if possible and expect heavy delays. According to Lieutenant Cameron Roden, with Utah Highway Patrol, a black SUV crashed into the back of a semi-truck that was hauling hazardous material. Following the incident, the SUV driver exited his vehicle and reportedly shot themself. The SUV driver was transported and is in critical condition at this time. UHP confirmed that there are no HAZMAT issues related to this incident.
