Tractor-trailer driver dead after crash in Cayuga County
A tractor-trailer driver died Thursday morning after the truck he was hauling overturned on State Route 34B in the Town of Scipio, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the crash around 8:31 a.m. just south of Fleming Scipio Town Line Road. Sheriff Brian Schenck said a southbound 1996 Freightliner hauling liquid manure went off the shoulder of the road and overturned as it came back onto the pavement. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office is not releasing his name while family members are notified. New York State Police, State Environmental Conservation Police, Cayuga County Emergency Services, Cayuga County 911, the Cayuga County Coroner and New York State DOT all responded. Several area fire and ambulance crews assisted, including Scipio, Genoa, Fleming, King Ferry, Poplar Ridge and Long Hill fire departments, along with Fleming, Southern Cayuga and Four Town ambulance services. The crash remains under investigation.
