Toddler dies in Independence parking lot scooter crash
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A two-year-old is dead after being hit by a car while riding a scooter on Saturday, the Independence Police Department says. According to police, the crash occurred as a Cadillac was backing out of a parking space at the Hawthorne Place Apartments on Concord Circle in Independence around 2:15 p.m. While the car was backing out, it hit the two-year-old on a scooter when it came into the vehicle's path. The Independence Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash. The child was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and died shortly after.
