Tiger Woods released from jail after crash, DUI arrest on Jupiter Island
Tiger Woods was charged with DUI after causing a crash on Jupiter Island around 2 p.m. on Friday, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office reported that Woods' SUV, which ended up on its side, collided with a pickup truck pulling a trailer.Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods was attempting to pass the truck when the crash happened. "The truck pulling a trailer was trying to slow down and pull over, and Mr. Woods was overtaking him at a high rate of speed before he clipped the back end and rolled his vehicle over on the driver's door," Budensiek said.Woods was able to climb out of the passenger door, and no one was injured in the incident. However, deputies immediately suspected that Woods was impaired, not by alcohol but by some kind of drug."Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zero. But when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused," Budensiek said.Woods was charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He was booked into the Martin County Jail, where Budensiek said he has been treated like any other inmate, with some precautions."We're going to make sure he's safe. We're not going to put him in general population. He's not going to be with other inmates that can hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did," Budensiek said. "He'll pay the price. But he's not going to pay the price by getting punished in jail."Budensiek said Florida law requires Woods to remain in jail for eight hours because of the DUI charge.Woods was released a little after 11 p.m. Friday night.
