Third hit-and-run vehicle suspected in fatal Brighton accident
Authorities in Brighton, Colorado are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday involving a fatal collision between two vehicles, one of which was driven by a suspected DUI perpetrator and a potential third vehicle that fled the scene. Multiple individuals were hospitalized, and sadly, one person lost their life at the crash site. The Brighton police have taken one individual into custody in connection with the incident. The collision happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the junction of Highway 85 and Weld County Road 2.5 and implicated a Ford SUV and a GMC SUV. Allegedly, the driver of the Ford SUV, believed to be under the influence, ran a stop sign while traveling west on County Road 2.5 and crashed into the northbound GMC on Highway 85. Tragically, two occupants of the Ford were thrown from the vehicle, resulting in one fatality and another sustaining severe injuries. Authorities mentioned that the deceased individual might have also been hit by a third vehicle that left the scene. Those in the GMC were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Even though two Ford passengers initially fled the scene, they were later located. One of them, identified as Erik Diaz Olivas, 20, was first hospitalized and then detained in Weld County Jail. Olivas is now facing various charges, such as vehicular homicide under the influence of alcohol, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and driving with a revoked license. Currently, there is no available information on the unidentified hit-and-run vehicle. At this time, the identity of the deceased victim has not been disclosed.
