'They were on an average hill,' Family speaks on tragic ATV accident that killed 9-year-old boy in Utah County
UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Family has identified the 9-year-old boy who died after an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that occurred on Sunday. Family members identified the young boy as Kolton Rawlinson. According to the family, Kolton was with his father on an ATV and going up a hill on West Mountain. They said Kolton was adventurous and always wanted to be outdoors, whether it was participating in sports, fishing, or camping. They said, "This was a father and son doing something they absolutely loved together, which somehow turned into a horrible, unforeseeable accident." The vehicle rolled at approximately 11:30 a.m. Noting the popular area within the community, the family added, "They were on an average hill our whole community rides all the time." Family and police both confirmed Kolton was wearing protective gear. When medical personnel arrived on scene, individuals were already attempting to perform life-saving measures on Kolton. He was life-flighted to Primary Children’s Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Describing Kolton, the Rawlinson family shared, "Kolton could make anything more fun just by showing up, always laughing and up to his next big prank on his family and friends. He had the best energy and the biggest heart, and anyone who knew him felt it." Additionally, the family expressed their deep gratitude to those who have shown their love and support. The family stated, "We don't know how to move forward without him. But the love this community has shown us is getting us through. We are more grateful than words can say." A donation fund was created to help with funeral expenses.
